Largo in Three Quarters Time

Whole notes yawn,
stretch, plié,
Reluctantly
emerging
from the page.
Voluptuous
dancers find
their way, slow,
across the
stage. Descend
into the
orchestra.
Their bellies
fill with breath.

Eighth notes stir, impatient.
Restless in the wings. Soon
their turn arrives. Unleashed
sprites swarming heights. Ascend
to balconies. Next they
trickle through mezanine.
Graceful speed, precision.
Their freedom brief, crashing
lured back to stage. By the
Conductor and her wand.
Dutifully, they rest.

Whole notes back.
Encircling.
Stretch, pause, sigh.
Lulling us
into calm.
Theatre
fades to black.

Lovely! I especially enjoyed the dancers at the end of first stanza. Great work. Thanks for writing to my musical prompt.
